ABOUT THE BRAVO! VANCOUVER CHORALE
Since it was founded in 1993, the Bravo! Vancouver Chorale has established itself as one of the premiere choral groups in the Pacific Northwest.
Now in its 15th season, the Chorale has performed a wide variety of sacred and secular repertoire over the years, including Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Ninth Symphony; Felix Mendelssohn’s St. Paul Oratorio, Brahms’ German Requiem, J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion and St. Matthew Passion, the Requiems of Mozart, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Duruflé and Giuseppe Verdi; Joseph Haydn’s Te Deum and The Creation, and Francis Poulenc’s Gloria to name just a few. The Chorale is also equally at home performing jazz and popular music. It has performed concerts of Duke Ellington’s inspiring Sacred Concert and Dave Brubeck’s eclectic To Hope: A Celebration; as well as songs from Broadway musicals, American folk and patriotic songs, Negro Spirituals and more. The Chorale has released two CD recordings, Hear My Prayer: The American Spiritual, and a live recording of Handel’s Messiah: An Oratorio.
In July 2001 the Chorale engaged in its first national tour to Washington D.C. and New York City, with performances at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and the 25th Anniversary National Pastoral Musician’s National Conference in Washington D.C. The New Washingtonians Jazz Orchestra of the Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts collaborated with the Chorale on this tour.
In June 2009, the Bravo! Vancouver Chorale will travel to Croatia to reciprocate the tour with the DSO. Plans are currently being made to develop a “sister city” jazz festival in Dubrovnik, modeled on the Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival.
