Vancouver has presented more than Bravo! Chorale100 concerts to over 40,000 audience members, and has produced 13 Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festivals.

Bravo! Vancouver Chorale: Since it was founded in 1993, the Bravo! Vancouver Chorale (click here for member list) has grown to become a 60-member auditioned civic choral ensemble, and has established itself as one of the premiere choral groups in the Pacific Northwest.

Now in its 17th season, the Chorale has performed a wide variety of sacred and secular repertoire over the years, including Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Ninth Symphony; Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah and St. Paul Oratorio, Brahms’ German Requiem, J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, the Requiems of Mozart, Verdi, Faure, Durufle; Joseph Haydn’s Te Deum and Francis Poulenc’s Gloria to name just a few.  In addition to major classical choral works, the Chorale is also equally at home performing jazz and popular music.  It has performed concerts of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert; as well as songs from Opera, Broadway, American folk and patriotic songs, Negro Spirituals and more.  The Chorale has released two CD recordings, Hear My Prayer: The American Spiritual, and a live recording of Handel’s Messiah: An Oratorio.

Bravo! Chorale

In July 2001 the Chorale engaged in its first national tour to Washington D.C. and New York City.  Performances included concerts at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Concert Hall and at the 25th Anniversary National Pastoral Musician’s National Conference in Washington D.C. The New Washingtonians Jazz Orchestra from the Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts collaborated with the Chorale on the tour.  The tour concerts featured a program of American sacred music, including Ellington’s Sacred Concert.

The Chorale collaborated with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra in a Pacific Northwest tour in the fall of 2008, performing American and Croatian music for choir and orchestra.  The tour included 7 concerts in Portland, Vancouver, Olympia, Edmonds and Seattle, including a performance at CroatiaFest in Seattle Center.  In July 2009, the Chorale toured to Croatia and performed concerts with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra in Dubrovnik, Cavtat and at St. James Cathedral in Medjugorje (Bosnia-Herzegovina).

In our 2010-11 Concert Season, the Chorale will be featured in four concerts: Handel’s Messiah: An Oratorio; Dave Brubeck’s To Hope: A Celebration; our Palm Sunday concert of John Rutter’s Requiem, Francis Poulenc’s Gloria and Pero Sisa’s Pie Jesu; and a special Gala Concert at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts Newmark Theatre called An Evening With Melissa Manchester, with special guest Grammy-winning pop and jazz singer Melissa Manchester.
